Homemade Soft Pretzels Recipe

Are you ready to get soft? I have mixed feelings when it comes to pretzels, I think I like both the homemade hard ones and the soft ones the same. Well maybe another time we will look at the hard ones, today let us enjoy this homemade soft pretzels recipe.

Did you know that pretzels originated in Europe in the early middle ages? Although nowadays you can find them in many different shapes, I am sure most of us still identify more with the original loop shaped ones. The salt is still the most popular seasoning.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • all-purpose flour
  • granulated sugar
  • salt
  • dried yeast
  • warm water
  • baking soda
  • unsalted butter
  • small bowl
  • electric mixer
  • plastic wrap
  • kitchen towel
  • baking sheets
  • parchment paper

You want to prepare your yeast mixture first that consists of your dried yeast, and warm water in the small bowl. That is left to set and become frosty for about 5 minutes. If you are using your electric mixture, bring it out to mix your dry ingredients, the flour and the salt.

Your frothy yeast mixture is added to the dry ingredients, before using the dough hook attachment to knead your dough for at least five minutes. If you do not have an electric mixture you can just use a wooden spoon, then use your hands to knead the dough.

Grease another bowl, and place the dough in a ball in there to rise for up to 40 minutes. After which you can divide it into eight, before dunking them into your warm water and baking soda mixture. I love that it only takes 10 minutes to bake these, in a pre-heated 400 degrees F oven.
