Homemade Banana Bread In A Jar

I am still yet to meet someone who does not enjoy banana bread, I for one love it. I have never had banana bread in a jar before. It just sounds too cool not try doesn’t it?

As far as I could tell from this recipe, the banana bread part of it is the same old recipe we have made for years. The twist comes in when you add the jar part.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • shortening
  • white sugar
  • eggs
  • mashed bananas
  • water
  • ll-purpose flour
  • baking powder
  • baking soda
  • salt
  • ground cinnamon
  • ground cloves
  • chopped pecans or walnuts
  • canning jars
  • funnel
  • large bowl
  • hand mixer
  • potato masher

As with most baking recipes, we start by creaming the shortening and the sugar. Then beat in the eggs, water and mashed bananas. The dry ingredients go in just before the last ingredients which are your nuts.

The funnel makes it so much easier to fill in your greased jars. If you plan on storing these for a while, it is recommended you sterilize them. Bake for 45 minutes at 325 degrees F.

Lids should be screwed on whilst the jars are still warm. If you screw them on tightly you should hear a ping. For favors or gifts, you can dress up and tag the jars, as Christina does.
