Growing Potatoes In Upside Down Buckets

Oh it’s no secret to gardeners that there are indeed many methods available to choose from when it comes to growing potatoes. The latest method I have been introduced to is how to grow potatoes in upside down 5 gallon buckets.

The advantage of using this method is the ability to combine the best of in ground gardening with container gardening. This should ultimately increase your yield and also make harvesting a lot easier.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • potato spuds
  • 5 gallon plastic bucket
  • utility knife
  • wheel barrow (optional)

I like to begin any project with the difficult tasks, so with this one we will just line up all the buckets in the garden, then begin removing the bottoms from each one. Once that is done you simply turn them over and place them over your potato spud planted in a raised bed.

You can easily hill your potato plants by adding dirt into the bucket as they grow. When it is time to harvest your potatoes, all you have to do is kick the buckets over or empty them into a wheel barrow.
