Growing Asparagus In Containers

In the past we have talked about growing asparagus in your garden, which is inself pretty easy to do. The hard part is waiting for your asparagus to mature. Today I discovered how to grow asparagus in containers.

If you do a quick search online, most people will tell you that it is not possible to grow asparagus in containers. However I found someone who successfully managed to grow theirs and she even has proof in pictures.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • asparagus crowns
  • potting soil
  • large container
  • organic fertilizer

Prepare your container for planting as you would for any other plant. She recommends you use a really large pot as the the roots will grow out of smaller ones. I suppose this is why other people grow theirs in old bath tubs.

Keep your asparagus well watered and in a location that recieves enough sun light. Initially your asparagus will fern out and even hang out of the pot. You will start to see a few stalks, however you have to be very patient as you wait for the larger stalks.
