Easy Homemade Cereal Recipe

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and what better thing to have for breakfast than cereal. Ofcourse, you could just have plain oats or you could spice it up with this easy delicious homemade cereal recipe.

I love that there are so many different variations to this recipe, you can add more of what you like and less of what you do not like. For example, I love my pecans not so much the dates though. Next time I want to try add raisins too.

Homemade Cereal Recipe

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 7 cups quick cooking oats
  • 1 cup wheat germ
  • 1 cup wheat bran
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • medium bowl
  • large bowl
  • large shallow baking dish
  • airtight containers or mason jars or ziploc bags
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 cup flaked coconut (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 275 degrees F (135 degrees C)

Step 2

Use the large bowl to mix the oats, wheat germ and wheat bran.

Step 3

Take the medium bowl in which you can blend brown sugar, vegetable oil, honey and water.

Step 4

Add and mix in your vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

Step 5

Take the brown sugar mixture and mix it into the oat mixture. You want it to be evenly moist before you pour it onto the large shallow baking dish.

Step 6

Bake for 45 minutes in the preheated oven. Remember to stir the mixture every 15 minutes until it turns a light brown.

Step 7

Mix in your dates, pecans, and coconut into the dish and continue baking about 15 minutes.

Step 8

Allow to cool, and store in airtight containers.

There you have it yet another easy to make recipe, that is delicious. Who needs cornflakes or honey bunches of oats anymore, when you can just whip something up in your own kitchen. Not me! 🙂
