DIY Zoetrope Wind Turbine

So we looking into generating wind energy on our homestead. I have spent countless hours on Google researching the different options available. One of the designs that has grabbed my attention is this diy zoetrope wind turbine.

It was designed by Mike Marohn from Washington State in the United States. What I love about this particular turbine is that it is a vertical axis turbine and also that it can be made from ordinary materials lying around the home or at a local hardware store.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • pvc pipe
  • stove pipe
  • metal brackets
  • plastic sheet
  • trailer hub
  • hand drill
  • screws
  • rotator

The plans for this wind turbine have beenmade available via open source. The ultimate goal is to try get people to modify the original design and hopefully improve on it. Wind energy is a free renewable energy source.

You can expect power output of approximately 150-200 watts. However it is important to keep in mind that wind energy output can flactuate depending on the wind available. That is why we have decided to compliment ours with solar energy.
