DIY Warre Beehive Plans

I have never kept bees before, but the lord knows I love me some honey. My cousin who keeps bees is always trying to convince me to start by building our own diy simple beehive.

There are obviously many different types of beehives, but he recommends the ware beehive. As luck would have it, I found some easy free plans on the internet. Total estimated cost is between $50 to $70.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • wood
  • wood nails or screws
  • permeable cloth
  • insulating material
  • wood finish
  • tape measure
  • hand saw
  • hammer
  • combination or pitch square
  • hand plane
  • utility knife
  • level

When building beehives, it is best to use soft wood such as pine and cedar. They also cost way less than the harder woods. You can cut the cloth from any canvas, for the insulation use peat moss, pine shavings, chopped hay or sawdust.

Don’t use wood finish that prevents air and moisture flow through the wood. This project should not take you more than 2 to 3 hours. Probably a little more, if you are not very handy.
