DIY Vertical Herb Garden From Plastic Milk Cartons

Fresh herbs are always the better choice for cooking, this is why I always have a herb garden. In the past I tend to favor the kitchen window sill simple ones. However, ever so often I run into new designs that not only allow you to grow more herbs, but they do not require any additional space.

Today I discovered this diy vertical herb garden from plastic milk cartons. The planters in this case are recycled plastic milk cartons and the frame can be built using reclaimed plywood and scraps.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Scrap plywood and  2″x 2″s
  • Wood Screws or nails
  • Tape measure.
  • Hammer.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Saw or  cutter
  • Pencil or marker.
  • 4 or 6 Pint Plastic Milk Cartons
  • Scissors.
  • Potting soil

Building the frame should be your first order of business. Once you have the frame built, you can make the wooden legs or feet. Attach these to the frame so that it can stand upright.

Next, you can go ahead and attach the pieces that will hold your ‘shelves’ to the frame. Cut your cartons around label level and then slip them into the horizontal frame supports via the handles. Fill with potting soil and sit the horizontal supports on to your main frame. You can use this simple vertical garden for starting seedlings too.
