DIY Vertical Garden Planter

This one is for the vertical gardening fans. A great idea if you do not have a lot of space for gardening or if you want to take your gardening indoors. You can build this DIY vertical garden planter, that has more than enough space for you to grow a lot of plants in it.

The plan below, included a trip to the local hardware store before the project began. You could probably cut the costs in half, by replacing some of the materials with similar things that are already available in your backyard or tool shed. For example, you may already have some unused planters lying around, why not use those?

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 2 stair risers
  • planter boxes
  • 1 2″x4″x12′ board (pressure treated)
  • Drill
  • 4 bolts
  • 4 nuts
  • 8 washers
  • 20 screws and matching size washers
  • 8 additional screws
  • Potting soil
  • Seedlings or plants

A great way to start this project is by building the main structure. The 2X4 make the back two legs and support. They are also screwed into the stair risers leaving you with a structure that can stand alone. The planter boxes are then attached to each leg using nuts and bolts again. Do not forget to drill more holes in the bottom for drainage, before filling up the planter with potting soil.

The last step goes without saying, go ahead and plant your seedlings or plants. If you have smaller planters or containers, you could make one of the steps an actual stair. Then you can place your planters or pots on there, without attaching them to the rest of structure. In the area between the bottom step and the ground, another planter can be placed on the ground right there.
