DIY Rope Ottoman

Who is ready for yet another fun creative diy project? We have successfully completed many projects that re-use old tires such as the diy old tractor tyre pond and growing potatoes in old tire. Most people who see this diy rope ottoman, instantly fall in love with it and want one for their home.

I love this project as it upcycles old tires, giving them a brand spanking new life. Most of the budget will go towards purchasing the rope. Although you can use old rope, I don’t think your ottoman will look as neat, however if that is all you have available sure go ahead and use that.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • old tire
  • sisal rope
  • nylon rope
  • hot gun
  • glue sticks
  • scissors
  • sealer (optional)
  • paintbrush (optional)

The first thing I did was give my tire a good wash and then let it dry. After that I spent a good 15 minutes or so wrapping the nylon rope, like a mad woman all around the tire. With the nylon rope in place, it was time to wrap the sisal rope around the tire starting from one edge. Hot glue has to be applied continously as you go.

Once you reach the top, just continue wrapping the sisal rope making a circle. However the hot glue will need to be applied to both the nylon rope side as well as to the sisal rope itself. Slowly but surely you will get to the center, where you can trim the rope with your scissors and glue it in place. For an outside ottoman, it is recommended that you paint it with sealer. I skipped the sealer! 🙂
