I really do enjoy the do it yourself projects we take on around here. The chicken diy projects seem to always be the most fun, like the diy chicken nipple waterer and the diy no spill pvc chicken feeder. I ran into this diy chicken coop from recycled doors today, I thought it was too cute not to share.

This is one of those re-purposing projects where the aim is to use as much recycled materials as you possibly can. The use of recycled doors for the main walls of the coop, help reduce the cost of this project especially if you can get them for free. This chicken coop is built indoors, unlike most other coops which are built outside.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

• recycled doors
• 2×4 boards
• frost blanket
• wood screws or nails
• hammer or hand drill
• recycled window
• nesting boxes

The dimensions for this coop are 1 door wide by 3 doors long. With this setup 4 doors will be sufficient. One on each side and two in the front, with the room wall at the back. The 2x4s are perfect for building a frame for the front doors. If you want your chickens to have outside access, then cut out an opening in the outside wall.

For the roof, a frost blanket is all you need. It will allow fresh air in, whilst filtering the dust from the coop. The space for the third door is where you install the window and the nesting boxes. They should be easily accessible from the inside. Now all you need to complete your coop is the inside accessories the feeder and the waterer. It’s a pretty cool, yet simple design.
