DIY Plastic Rabbit Hay Rack

Mum, did you feed the rabbits? That is a question I get from my daughter Lacey almost every single day. We had this diy old baby crib rabbit hutch and this diy 5 gallon rabbit waterer made for their accommodation, and they seem to love it so much. A few months back I also decided to add this diy plastic rabbit hay box, and that has been a godsend.

It does not matter which rabbit breed you are raising, they are all going to need to eat at some point. This is a simple solution that you can setup in less than 10 minutes. Even if you have to purchase the storage box, it should not cost you more than $10. Installing a couple of these boxes in their hatch will reduce the number of times you’ll actually have to feed them in a day.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1.

Drill 2 holes on the back of the storage container. You will insert hooks in both these holes and use the hooks to hang up the hay box.

Step 2.

Drill at least 3 evenly spaced out large holes in the bottom section of the lid. These will provide access to the hay inside the box for your rabbits.

Step 3.

Sand down the edges of the holes to smoothen them out and make them safer for your rabbits to use.

Step 4.

Fill the box up with hay, and hang the box in rabbit hatch or cage.

When deciding the size of the holes on the lid, just make sure that they are way smaller than your rabbits. Otherwise you will have problems with them getting inside the actual box and peeing in there. Instead of drilling holes for the hooks on the back, you can also choose to use stick on hooks. However, these probably won’t last as long as the drilled in hooks.
