DIY Picture Frame Solar Panel

So its not a secret anymore that I really love using solar power. Today I ran into this diy picture frame solar panel, and I got excited like a kid in a candy store.

Not only is the panel case made from a picture frame, the solar cells themselves are taken from solar garden lights, which are very cheap to buy or perhaps you have some in your garden already.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • old picture frame
  • garden solar lights
  • plywood
  • paint
  • diodes
  • soldering iron
  • hot glue
  • nails

The first step will involve taking apart the garden lights. Keep the solar cells and save everything else for future use. For example the plastic globes can be re-used as garden hot caps.

Once you have lined up the solar cells and soldered them up you want to attach them to the plywood back and connect them correctly. This solar panel was able to 22V of power on a winter day.
