DIY Old Futton Hay Feeder

Don’t you just love it when you can reuse stuff that you would have otherwise thrown away? I got really excited when I saw this diy old metal futton hay feeder for your goats or cows on Pinterest earlier.

When I showed hubby the picture, he too became excited and started breaking down this simple project into step by step instructions. Luckily we had a really old futton from my college days lying around in the garage that we are going to repurpose for this feeder.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • old metal futton
  • welding machine
  • metal scrap or rods
  • hacksaw
  • tape measure
  • hand drill (optional)
  • long screws (optional)
  • metal or wooden tray (optional)

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1

Measure and cut your bottom side brackets from the metal rods.
We used 4 inches for the underside and 6 inches for the top side.

Step 2

Measure and cut your top side brackets from the metal rods.
We used 8 inches for the underside and 10 nches for the top side.

Step 3

Attach the metal support rods in place with either a welding machine
or a hand drill and metal screws.Hubby loves to weld stuff.

Step 4

The tray on the bottom to catch any hay from being wasted, we were lucky
to find an old corrugated iron sheet and just bend it to make a tray. I suppose
you could also build or make one from wood.

Step 5

Put some hay in your new feeder and place it in your goat or cow pen..

Our goats seem to be loving their new feeding station. Like most of our other diy projects we sure had losta fun building this one too.
