DIY Milk Crate Planters

If you are going to be bringing your gardening inside either due to the cold weather or limited space, these are going to be a great choice. I am talking about these diy milk crate garden beds or containers, that my sister introduced me to.

Instead of spending money buying containers for your plants, you can just use milk crates instead. This system is adopted from the design popular in the United Kingdom called Air Pot, which is said to encourage the roots to grow better.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • milk crates
  • landscape fabric
  • all-purpose polyester thread
  • measuring tape
  • scissors
  • sewing machine or needle and thread
  • potting soil
  • plants
  • organic fertilizer

Once you have collected your milk crates and the other materials, the first step is to actually measure your milk crates. Then you can use those measurements to cut the landscape fabric, which will then be placed inside all your crates as a breathable liner.

The fabric also has to be sewn either by machine or hand, before it is fitted snuggly into the container. Last but definetely not least is the soil and your plants that go into the milk crate. Pretty much anything that grows well in containers will grow in these, I put some carrots and lettuce in mine. Water your plants well and apply fertilizer regularly.
