DIY Kiddie Pool Chick Brooder

When you think of a kiddie pool, the first thought will most likely be fun for the kids during the hot Summer months. Although we have already tried the simple diy chick brooder and this other diy old dresser chick brooder in the past. I recently discovered this diy kiddie pool chick brooder idea on Pinterest.

Unlike most other ideas on that site, this one actually did not come with any instructions. If you know me well, I love such projects. It is a great opportunity to reverse engineer just by looking at the photograph available. Also if you have any leaking kiddie pools, you can repurpose them and save some money doing so.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 2 kiddie pools
  • hardware cloth
  • cable ties
  • wood shavings
  • chick feeder
  • chick waterer
  • wire cutter

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1.

Wash and clean the first kiddie pool
that will go on the ground.

Step 2.

Add a layer of wood shavings on the
bottom of the kiddie pool.

Step 3.

Measure and cut the hardware cloth.

Step 4.

Place the hardware cloth around the
perimeter of the pool and use the cable
ties to join the ends together.

Step 5.

Sit the second kiddie pool on top of
the hardware cloth.

If you are going to be using this brooder indoors, initially when the chicks are still small you can stop at Step 3. However, that is only if your kiddie pool has high outer walls. When using this setup outside the hardware cloth will provide protection from predators, whilst the second kiddie pool provides protection from the sun and rain. 🙂
