OMG I love this idea. As soon as I saw this on Pinterest the other day I immediately knew I was going to make myself one too. Actually I was kicking myself, thinking why I did not think of this diy hanging shoe organizer garden idea before.

So I pulled out my old shoe organizer, from my city life days and then looked around the house and shed for all the other materials. The hooks proved a little difficult to find, so I had to get those from our local hardware store. You can plant mixed leaf salad, mini tomatoes, herbs llike thyme, chives, sorrel, petite pois peas and spinach.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • young plants or seeds
  • hanging pocket shoe organiser
  • curtain pole or pipe fittings
  • screws
  • metal pan or utensil hanging hooks
  • compost
  • 2×2 lumber
  • trough planter

Make sure that you use a strong pole to attach and attach that firmly to a wall. Place the hooks on the pole and hang your shoe organizer from these hooks. They pretty much carry all the weight of the plants, compost and water so make sure the hooks are super strong.

Your shoe pockets should drain well, if you pour water into them. If not, you may have to punch in a few small holes into the bottom of the pockets. Use compost that retains moisture to fill each pocket up to an inch below the top before adding your plants or seeds into each pocket.

I think its easier to use each row for a different plant or vegetable, except for the herbs which you can take up one row and plant different herbs in each pocket in that row. Any access water should drip into the trough placed directly below the hanging garden. Apparently you can grow more plants in that ton the ground rough too. So cool! 🙂
