DIY Hanging Plastic Bottle Garden

Not many people are lucky enough to have space to set up a garden. Container gardening is a great option if you find yourself in this predicament. You can even set up a hanging garden using repurposed plastic 2L soda bottles. Some students in Brazil have been building this type of garden as a project at school. They water their gardens with water collected from the school’s air conditioning system, which is apparently as much as 6000 liters per year. Whoaa, that’s a lot of ‘free’ water!

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Empty 2L Plastic Soda Bottles
  • Box Cutter Or Knife
  • Seeds Or Seedlings
  • Soil
  • Wire

Then you just cut out the top half of the bottle using the box cutter. You lay your soil in the container. Sprinkle some fertilizer, plant your seeds. Then you hang up the bottle using the wire. You hand each bottle one on top of the other, in a row from top to bottom. Don’t forget to water your planters. I like this idea, simple but effective. They have had success growing Basil, mini Italian tomatoes and lettuce in these containers.
