DIY Hanging Gutter Garden

If you have limited space available for gardening here is another great option for you. You can build your own hanging gutter garden, in which you can plant flowers or vegetables. Just make sure what you plant has shallow roots or it will not be able to grow in the gutters.

You will be using PVC gutters for this project and not the metal ones. This hanging garden could also be used to divide two spaces or even as some kind of natural privacy screen.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 8′ PVC white rain gutter
  • PVC white gutter end caps
  • Steel cables
  • Feeney Cross Clamps
  • Feeney steel rods
  • Galvanized eye hooks
  • Potting soil
  • Plants
  • Cordless Drill with drill bit set
  • Hand saw or hack saw
  • T-square or straight edge
  • Tape measure
  • Permanent marker
  • Level
  • Eye Glasses

The first and probably most important thing you do after you have cut your gutters to the desired lengths is to mark the center of each one. If you do not do this correctly you will end up with a lobe-sided hanging garden.

The ideal place to locate your garden is an area that receives not less than four hours of sunlight everyday. Once you have hung all the gutters, you can fill in the potting soil and plant your seedlings.
