DIY Gravity PVC Irrigation System

On the whole gardening can be so much fun, however I don’t enjoy the watering part of it. So I always try find ways to cheat and get myself out of it as much as possible. I was so excited today when I found this diy gravity PVC Irrigation System.

This is a very simple system that does not require any commercial nozzles, house water supply or timers. This does not prevent it from doing its job well. This is why I always advocate for people to Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS). lol.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • PVC pipes
  • 5 gallon plastic buckets
  • hand drill
  • hose pipe
  • measuring tape
  • pvc t-joints
  • pvc end covers

The plans I found were designed to irrigate a 4X4 square foot garden bed. You will need to cut your PVC pipes to create a grid that fits into this area. Do not forget to drill the holes in the PVC pipes to will allow the water to irrigate your garden beds.

Since this system uses gravity, you will need to place your water source above your beds. In this case, he simply placed one 5 gallon bucket on top of another turned upside down. From one full bucket, you can expect 4 to 5 inches spray for about one minute. Not shabby at all, I am going to give this a try.
