The last thing that anyone wants to hear is the word ‘bomb’. This is why when I first heard of these things, I was very intrigued. We are already familiar with the diy handheld seed sower and the diy seed tape. Now it was time to unleash these diy garden seed balls, and see how ‘destructive’ they could be in our garden. LOL

Relax, before you click away, thinking that I am actually talking about real bombs. Some gardeners have become masters at using these to fuel their passion for gardening. If you have hard to reach areas or want some level of creativeness and organization in your garden, you can deploy these. Not only are they easy to make, only four ingredients are required to make these ‘bombs’.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

• clay
• water
• seeds
• compost
• flat container
• knife

When using a clay mix, bring it out and cut into small manageable pieces. Larger pieces tend to be harder to roll. Press into 2.5 inches wide and 2 inches long pieces, that are about half an inch thick. Sprinkle some compost onto the clay, a good rich layer will speed up germination. The seeds go on next, depending on their size 2 to 5 seeds should do the trick.

The next step could kill your bomb, add just a few drops of water. Way too much water is not good for the ‘explosion’ hence I always say less is more. Roll into a ball, making sure your seeds are in the middle. Drop your balls into a container filled with compost. Aim for at least 5 outside layers of compost and then leave them out to dry. The fun part is when you deploy it and a few days later, the seeds start to germinate.
