DIY Cinder Block Compost Bin

When it comes to making compost for our garden, I always welcome trying different methods and systems. In the past we have used the diy milk crate composter as well as the diy compost tumbler very successfully. Just the other day I came across this diy cinder block compost bin idea.

You can literally just arrange the blocks on top of each other when building the outer walls. This makes it a super simple composting solution. I don’t think I will need to make a hardware store run for this project, most if not all the materials can be salvaged around our homestead. Looks like a simple 1 hour maximum only project to me.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • cinder blocks
  • chicken wire
  • concrete adhesive (optional)

Find a nice flat location for your compost bin. If you have a garden shed, you could probably build it along one of the sides. Use the diagram provided at the link below to lay your cinder blocks. If you want a more permanent structure you can also apply concrete adhesive. Your compost bin will be about 7 feet wide by 3 feet high, with two separate compartments.

One section will be for the new compostables and the other for the older. In order to keep everything in place wrap some chicken wire around the whole structure. Optionally you can secure it to small metal posts in the ground around your compost bin. That is all there is to this project, happy composting! 🙂
