DIY Chicken Salad Bar

Many people do not know this, but chickens love to eat greens too. They provide some nutrients that the chickens need especially for laying nice big eggs. This diy chicken salad bar would be a great addition to any chicken coop.

Most of the materials can be salvaged from in and around the homestead, and you can replace any of them with something else that you have available for your use.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • chicken salad seed mix
  • 3′ deck boards
  • 2′ deck boards
  • long deck screws
  • 10′ furring strip
  • 1/2″ hardware cloth
  • flat brackets
  • small hinges
  • eyehook
  • topsoil
  • jigsaw
  • cordless drill
  • tape measure
  • wire cutters
  • staple gun/staples
  • pencil
  • watering can

Measuring and cutting the boards is very important for this project if you want to be able to build a perfect square frame. The top cover also needs accurate measurements or it will not fit over your frame.

It will take about 7 days before the seeds start sprouting. Just make sure to keep the salad bar well watered and the seeds will grow and be available for your chickens to feed on.
