DIY Chicken Poop Hammock

When it comes to keeping chickens there are a lot of fun things we love to do. From building the chicken coop, to the  diy chicken coop swings, the diy chicken coop feeders and even the diy chicken coop waterers. However, after we feed the chickens, the not so fun stuff follows, the chicken poop. I think this diy chicken poop hammock is an even  better solution to the previous chicken poop gutter design.

Although it will not get rid of the sometimes hard to bare smell, at least it makes the job of cleaning the coop, a lot easier. As your chickens roost and do their thing, this hammock will collect the poop and you can just unhook it and empty it in the compost.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • shade cloth
  • eye bolts
  • 1×2 lumber
  • hooks
  • sewing machine
  • utility knife

This hammock only works if you have two roosts in your chicken coop. So you either have to build one or redesign the one you already have. Measure your shade cloth so that fits between the two roots with a 8 to 12 inch dip between the two roots. On each end you will thread through the 1x2s or any other pole or rod.

The pole or rod section will have holes that are lined up to the hooks on the roosts. These hooks hold up your hammock. You can be fancy and add side panels that will hold the poop, but this is not necessary. The hammock allows you to remove the poop in your coop in less than 10 minutes. You can then use some of this homemade chicken coop deodorizer spray, when you are done. What a time saver! 🙂
