After you find land for your homestead, the next thing one needs to do is to build a shelter. We have looked at how to build a log cabin in an earlier post, today I wanted to share with you these plans I found for this tiny house you can build.

The best way to save yourself a tonne on the materials is if you can get your hands on reclaimed materials, which are often cheap if not free. You should also be willing to give a lot of your time and hard work, to get this house off the ground. The good news is, their tiny house cost just less than $6,000 to build.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

• lumber
• doors
• metal roofing sheets
• insulation
• windows
• 1×6 pine wood
• cinder blocks
• kitchen sinks
• bath tub fixtures
• lighting fixtures
• level
• measuring tape
• construction tools
• table saw
• ladder
• wood nails & screws
• drill

These plans are for a two room cabin, however they recommend that instead of building both at the same time you do one at a time. The main room is 14’x16′, the bedroom/bathroom is 12’x20′ and the porch is 6′ wide. As with every building you start with a strong foundation.

As for the finishings I guess it will all depend on what you have available or what you can afford. You do not have to add them all at once too, just add whatever you find whenever it becomes available. The most important thing is that you get the structure and the insulation in place.
