DIY 1L Plastic Bottle House

Honestly, I am probably never going to build this type of house. However, I found it very interesting and hope that by posting it on here, I could perhaps inspire someone to build this diy plastic bottle house.

Not only is it an amazing idea, it is also very environmentally friendly. All the plastic bottles that you will collect and use for this project, could have found their way to some land fill somewhere. Re-purposing projects like this one are always gentle on the wallet. This is why they are popular in places like India and Africa.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • empty 1l plastic bottles with lids
  • sand
  • cement
  • window frames
  • door frames
  • metal or wood beams for roof
  • roofing sheets
  • tiles
  • paint (optional)
  • building tools

You are probably going to need either a lot of patience or many helpers with the first step, which is tightly filling up all your plastic bottles with sand. Each bottle is a brick, so you are going to need thousands to build any sizable structure.

The foundation is laid down using cement, and the bricks will be laid down same way as you would with ordinary bricks. The cap side of the bottle faces what will be the inside of your house. Don’t forget to leave out the windows and doors as your walls get higher.

The floor is leveled and constructed with the same bottle bricks too. Then finished off with tiles set on top of the bottle bricks. Both inner and outer walls can be plastered and finished off with a nice coat of paint.
