Jill from the PrairieHomestead.com discovered this method in some old gardening books that she inherited from her grandfather.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • hay
  • compost
  • seeds
  • garden fork

You have to choose a mulching method, that works for your particular needs. If you choose this one then you can use either hay leaves, grass clippings for your mulch, whatever is more readily available to you.

She experimented with a thick layer of about 10 inches of mulch. The seeds are also planted after the mulch has been laid onto the ground, and the mulch is parted as the plants grow.
