Chinese Beef & Honey Black Pepper Sauce Recipe

Every now and again I like to try different things for dinner for my family. Two days I go, I decided to take on some Chinese cooking. The only thing ‘Chinese’ I have mastered are the homemade noodles, which I can whip out without even referring to the recipe. So what was on the menu on this day? I decided to try this Chinese beef with honey black pepper sauce recipe.

I love that it is a quick stir fry, with a short ingredient list. I did not have access to the cooking wine, so I used some homemade chicken stock instead. Apparently this is a copy cat recipe, so if you prepare it well, you would actually be eating a popular item on many Chinese restaurant menus. Preparation time is about 10 minutes and actual cooking time is 5 minutes.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • soy sauce
  • honey
  • oyster sauce
  • chinese cooking wine
  • beef or chicken stock (optional)
  • water
  • crushed black pepper
  • vegetable oil
  • garlic
  • onion
  • thinly sliced steak
  • small bowl
  • whisk
  • wok or large skillet
  • rice

In a small bowl, add all the ingredients for your sauce and then whisk them together. Set them aside to allow them to set before use. Heat your oil in the wok until it starts to smoke, then in goes your onion and garlic. Allow to cook for about a minute before adding your beef and it cook for another minute. Remove your beef from the wok.

It is time to reduce your heat to medium high and the add the sauce into the wok. Allow to simmer for another minute, it should start to thicken. The beef is ready to be added to sauce, and just allow it to warm up for a minute or so. Serve this with delicious beef with some rice.
