Canning Mushrooms

Here’s a great way to preserve your mushrooms, so you can enjoy them later. You can use this method for canning mushrooms in your own kitchen.

Mushrooms must only be hot packed, they should never be cold packed. Don’t worry that does not make the canning process more complicated. It just helps your canned mushrooms last longer.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • fresh mushrooms
  • mason jars
  • canning lids & rings
  • canning salt
  • canning utensils
  • water
  • large crockpot or saucepan
  • slotted spoon
  • kitchen cloth
  • water bath canner
  • colander (optional)
  • ascorbic acid (optional)

Wash your mushrooms and them slice them if they are not already sliced. Some people do not like the smell of mushrooms boiling in water, so you may want to schedule your canning for when the family is out.

Make sure all the rims are nice and dry before putting the lids on. Don’t forget to add half a teaspoon of salt in each jar. Ascorbic acid can also be added to each jar if you do not want the mushrooms to change color.
