Canning Apple Pie Filling Recipe

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always loved me some apple pie. Over the years I have tried a few recipes, and have had many favorites. Well I lie, I think I can now just say have two recipes I use for making apple pie. There is the fresh apple pie recipe and then there is this canning apple pie filling recipe.

I found this recipe by Elise, online a few years back. What I love about it is that its originates from the Amish people. This basically means, it is as simple a recipe as you can find, however expect it to be very delicious as with most things Amish. If you are wondering what to do with all those extra apples before they go bad, here is your the solution to your problem.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • apples
  • sugar
  • clear gel
  • nutmeg
  • cinnamon
  • salt
  • water
  • lemon juice
  • canning jars with lids
  • water bath canner
  • stock pot
  • canning utensils
  • kitchen towel

Throw all the ingredients, except the apples and the lemon juice into your stock pot. Add the water too and allow everything to boil over medium heat. You can then add the apples as well as the lemon juice, and give it a nice stir before we can start filling the jars.

Disinfect and wash your jars before you start to ladle in the apple pie filling, each jar should be filled to at least an inch below the rim. Wipe out each rim, with a dry cloth before screwing on the lids with rings. Process in the water bath canner for 20 minutes, lift from the water bath using the jar lifter. Allow to cool and seal on your kitchen counter, you should hear ‘pops’ as the jars begin to seal.
