BBQ Grilled Shrimp Skewers Recipe

When grilling season is upon us, we never go more than two days without using the grill. After all it is only a few short months and we must take full advantage, right? Remember the Mexican street corn recipe and the grilled huli huli chicken recipe that I have already shared on this blog? Now you can add this BBQ grilled shrimp skewers recipe to your rolodex too.

Now this recipe, involves two processes. First, you are going to have to make the homemade seasoning, and then only after that you can grill the shrimp. At least the seasoning is only 4 ingredients, that I am sure you already have in your kitchen. It is what happens when you combine these, that really makes the shrimp to die for. This is one of those perfect examples, when keeping things simple rewards you big time. Are you ready to grill some shrimp?

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • garlic powder
  • kosher salt
  • Italian seasoning
  • cayenne pepper
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • lemon juice
  • shrimp
  • canola or vegetable oil
  • bowl
  • air tight container
  • metal or wooden skewers

Prep work should only take about 5 minutes, and then you grill the shrimp 2 to 3 minutes per side. I really prefer having my shrimp on skewers, but you can still enjoy this recipe without them. In which case, you would either grill them directly on the grill if they are large enough or bake them in the oven if they are smaller kind. Also when using wooden skewers, it is recommended that you let them soak in water for a good hour before threading the shrimp on them.

The seasoning is pretty straight forward, combine the four ingredients in a bowl and the drizzle the lemon juice and the olive oil. Be careful not to drizzle too much, you don’t want a marinade. Instead of tossing the shrimp in the paste before threading on the skewers, I like to reverse the process and then use a brush to lightly apply the seasoning on the already skewered shrimp. Hubby likes hot stuff, so on his we sprinkle on red chili pepper flakes, just to give them that extra kick! 🙂
