Balela Salad Recipe

Today I have decided to get all super healthy on you. I mean what is the point of growing all these delicious and healthy vegetables in your garden, if you cannot enjoy them all at once? Allow me to introduce you to this balela salad recipe.

Ok, when I said everything in your garden above I lied. Actually funny enough, this is probably one of the very few salad recipes that does not have lettuce. Once you have chopped up and sliced your ingredients, it is quick and easy to make this in just 15 minutes or less. Balela  also known as garbanzo beans are actually a Middle Eastern chickpea, however if you do not have that you can pretty much use any chickpeas, like I do.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • chickpeas
  • black beans
  • chopped onion
  • jalapeno
  • sun dried tomatoes
  • grape tomatoes
  • fresh dill
  • fresh basil
  • fresh Italian parsley
  • lemon juice
  • extra-virgin olive oil
  • garlic cloves
  • apple cider vinegar
  • salt and black pepper
  • feta cheese (optional)
  • medium bowl
  • small bowl
  • whisk

Sit your bowl on the kitchen counter, then add the black beans, chick peas, onion, jalapeno pepper, sun dried tomatoes, tomatoes, as well as the herbs. For the dressing add your lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, vinegar, and salt and pepper into the small bowl. Give everything a good whisk, before drizzling over your salad, and stirring ever so lightly.

In order to really enhance the flavors, it is recommended that you let the salad sit in your fridge overnight. Then you can add feta cheese before you serve it, if you like. This salad goes well in a wrap, sandwich, as a dip or side dish and even an appetizer. It’s 100% gluten free and vegan too.
