5 Minute Homemade Ice Cream Recipe

Today was one of those days when I have my cravings, and it just so happened it was ice cream. I can’t believe that we have made homemade ice cream cones, but never what actually goes in them. Luckily my friend Shannon shared this 5 minute homemade ice cream recipe, she found online a while back.

This recipe is super simple, and unlike most other recipes you do not have to invest in an expensive ice cream maker. Most of the ingredients, should be available in your kitchen if not a quick run to the grocery store should do the trick. Do not buy the ice cream whilst there, come home and make your own. It tastes soooo much better, trust me.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup half & half cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • small bowl
  • medium ziploc bag
  • large ziploc bag
  • cubed ice
  • 1 cup rock salt
  • measuring cup
  • kitchen towel
  • spoon (for stirring)

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1.

Add all the ingredients into your measuring cup.

Step 2.

Mix everything together well. The sugar should be
completely dissolved before you can move on to step 3.

Step 3.

Place the medium ziploc bag over the bowl, and pour
your ice cream mixture into the bowl and zip it up.

Step 4.

Put some ice into the large ziploc bag and then add
the rock salt. This will act as your ice cream maker.

Step 5.

Place the bag with the ice cream mixture into your ice cream
maker bag and add more ice, before zipping the bag shut.

Step 6

Wrap the bag in the kitchen towel and then shake the
mixture for about 5 minutes. Shake longer for firmer.

Step 7.

Open the ice cream bag and serve. Mmmm so delicious. 🙂

If you do not have access to rock salt, just use whatever salt you have available. The salt helps bring the temperature down, aiding in making your ice cream. Instead of the vanilla extract you can add any other flavoring to make different flavors such as strawberry, mint, orange etc. We will store any left over ice cream in an air tight containers in the freezer.
