$4 DIY Tomato Cages

There are a many things on the homestead that you can build yourself, or should build yourself in order to stay on budget. These diy homemade tomato cages that Shaye built, are a perfect example.

These are easy to make and each one costs less than 4 bucks. If you can find bamboo and the twine or wire for free, then you could probably build these at no cost to you at all.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • twine or wire
  • bamboo stakes
  • tomato plants

As you can see in the picture above, each set up will have 4 bamboo stakes in a circle about 4 feet wide in diameter. You just drive them into the ground at an angle and then tie them up in the center.

The support of the structure is at the top where you tie the stakes together, so make sure that knot is very strong. As for planting your tomatoes, one plant per bamboo stake is all you need. Use the twine to tie the tomato plant to the stake as it grows.
